Why LaTIMA?
LaTIMA – Lateral Thermal Material Analyzer
The metrological determination of the bulk thermal conductivity of highly conductive materials has found its solution. LaTIMA is a compact, award-winning system (you can hyperlink here Therminic 2015 paper) that goes beyond conventional approaches by enabling reliable characterization of advanced materials.
Conventional thermal steady-state methods, such as ASTM D5470, are not well suited for the characterization of highly conductive materials, including metals, alloys, and modern ceramics. Furthermore, anisotropic materials require the determination of in-plane properties, which cannot be fully captured using standard approaches.
LaTIMA addresses both challenges by applying a lateral heat-flow measurement principle, enabling accurate and stable determination of thermal conductivity while also supporting the analysis of in-plane material properties.
LaTIMA tackles two common challenges at once:
High Thermal Conductivity Measurement
Accurately measures the thermal conductivity of highly conductive materials, including metals, alloys, and advanced ceramics.
In-Plane Property Analysis
Determines the in-plane thermal properties of anisotropic materials using a lateral heat-flow principle.
LaTIMA – Precision Meets Flexibility
Designed for the modern material lab and quality‑assurance departments, LaTIMA makes a wide range of already available sample geometries applicable for thermal measurements.
- Universal sample geometry: Dog bone specimens, as used in pull tests according to ASTM D638, are ideal for LaTIMA. Matching flat, rectangular samples can be produced simply and cost‑effectively, from sintered materials to ceramics.
- Practical assistant: LaTIMA is a straightforward and reliable tool for material laboratories and quality‑assurance teams.
- Low operating cost: No expensive consumables, and the open‑design allows easy integration with existing lab infrastructure.(**this third bullet I think stay as you wrote)
TIMAwave - Extend Your Capabilities
TIMAwave is an add-on module for LaTIMA that measures the thermal diffusivity of solid materials using Ångström’s method. Easily integrated into LaTIMA, it enables dynamic, high-precision measurements. By combining thermal diffusivity and conductivity, TIMAwave allows calculation of volumetric heat capacity, providing valuable data for simulations and material analysis, all on the same sample in a single system.
